Starlight Broadcasting a quick insight

Starlight Broadcasting was born from a small Internet Radio Station called Starlight UK Radio back in 2011, which initially was created as a pastime for myself using very basic free downloadable software.

Although there were gaps between tracks and further gaps between microphone (as the software was not built for this) It started to get quite a good following playing a mixture of music from 1950 till 2011 but mainly Motown and Northern Soul.

The latter part of 2011 things really started coming together, I met Paul Gordon a former IT Technician for the computer company Hewlett Packard. He had listened to the station and his first words to me were “You sound like two tin cans connected with a piece of string” I knew from the start It was the beginning of a brilliant working relationship as he was exactly like me pull no punches and say it as it is.

Things quickly moved on, we registered Starlight UK Radio, getting proper domains and most of all installing a good basic broadcasting software programme with a proper server and outside links to the station. From then on things just got better. A major milestone was hit when the station was getting picked up in the USA.

The American Influence

By 2013 70% of listenership was The USA and one of my listeners at the time was Sydney Colston of Big Dawg Productions out of Los Angeles. Now at this time I knew of only Sydney listening. It was not until 2014 when I found out who actually was tuning In to Starlight UK Radio. So back in 2013 I did our first competition to win tickets to see The Supreme Love Show with Supreme Partners Susaye Greene and Scherrie Payne the response was phenomenal. This prompted me to visit Los Angeles on Valentines Day 2014 to see The Supreme Love Show and meet Sydney Colston alongside Susaye Greene and Scherrie Payne for the first time.

During that concert I found out who actually was listening to Starlight UK from The USA ……not just the American public but the actual artists of the tracks I was playing and people associated with Motown such as Susaye, Scherrie, Charlo Crossley, Chris Jasper (The Isley Brothers), Robert Gordy Jr, Sherry Gordy, Iris Gordy and Cornelious Grant (The Temptations) to name just a few.

This prompted me to go a stage further,  Starlight UK Radio was unfortunately set aside for the launch of a new station Soul Radio USA. The genre of music was restricted to only Classic R&B, 60s Soul, Motown, Detroit A Go-Go,  Northern Soul, and TSOP this gave me the opportunity to Include in the mix a very good friend of mine Jerry Cummings from Harold Melvin’s BlueNotes.

Since that year Soul Radio USA has gone from strength to strength Including Iconic Interviews with artists like Kim Weston, Freda Payne, Edna Wright (Honeycombs), Archie Bell, Charles Wright, Gerald Alston (The Manhattans) Janie Bradford (Motown Records) and Grammy Award Winning Songwriter Allee Willis to name but a few.

Two years ago on the back of the success of Soul Radio USA Starlight Broadcasting came to the Internet ….

Today and The Future

Since those early beginnings In 2011 we are now a major company (non profit) supplying 20 Internet Radio Stations 5 of which are live with presenters and the other 15 stations broadcasting 24/7

At this point I would like to thank all of our listeners New and Old for making all this happen
